SSSGC Yogyakarta, together with the SSSGC Indonesia team, conducted a Narayana Grama Seva Sociocare programme in commemoration of the Mahasamadhi of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and Mahabhikkhu Ashin Jinarakkhita on 1 June 2026.
Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba was a revered spiritual teacher whose universal message centred on the unity of all religions, selfless service, love for humanity, and the practice of universal human values - Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Love, and Non-violence. Throughout His life, He inspired millions of people around the world to transform society through selfless service (seva) and compassion.
Mahabhikkhu Ashin Jinarakkhita, affectionately known as Sukong, was the first Indonesian Buddhist monk to receive full higher ordination after more than 500 years. He played a pivotal role in the revival and development of Buddhism in Indonesia while promoting harmony and mutual respect among different faiths.
The programme was held one day after the SSSGC Indonesia team participated in the celebration of Trisuci Waisak. On Monday, 1 June 2026, which also marked the beginning of a new month and Indonesia's Pancasila Sanctity Day, volunteers gathered in prayer before departing for the service location.
Upon arrival, the programme commenced with welcoming remarks, followed by the singing of the national song "Garuda Pancasila." The atmosphere quickly became lively as volunteers and children participated together in singing, dancing, and various games with prizes. The activities were met with great enthusiasm, filling the venue with joy and laughter.
Following the recreational session, volunteers distributed essential supplies and daily necessities to the community. A total of 1,008 beneficiaries received assistance, including rice, T-shirts, bread, pudding, prepared meals, milk, biscuits, stationery, notebooks, pens, coloured pencils, colouring books, tumblers, cooking oil, tea, doughnuts, and other essential items.
An additional 250 care packages were personally delivered to elderly residents and individuals suffering from illnesses who were unable to travel to the distribution site, ensuring that no one was left behind.
The Narayana Seva concluded smoothly and was warmly welcomed by the people of Gunungkidul, many of whom have been familiar with Sai service activities for more than three decades. Over the years, the Sai Organisation has continuously supported local communities through initiatives such as free water projects, the construction of houses for families in need, road development projects, educational assistance, and various humanitarian programmes inspired by the teachings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
This service activity once again reflected the spirit of "Love All, Serve All" and "Help Ever, Hurt Never," demonstrating that genuine spirituality is expressed through selfless love in action.
